Sorry about the delay, wifi was almost impossible to find at the top of the mountain! We made a short two-hour drive to Milford Sound, where we stayed in a cabin. The drive was interesting, but beautiful! We were driving so high up into the mountains that we were literally driving through the clouds. The most interesting part of the drive was the tunnel we needed to take to get into Milford Sound. The tunnel goes through the top of the mountain, and that is the only way to get into Milford Sound! Once we arrived in Milford Sound we went straight to the dock, since we were going on a boat ride for the day!

What a beautiful day… from the mountains to the waterfalls, from the sea lions to the bottle nosed dolphins, and to the underwater obesrvatory I was left in awe! Milford Sound is often referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world." Milford Sound is actually a fjord which is: a long, narrow, deep inlet of sea between high cliffs that was formed by glaciers. We enjoyed a beautiful boat ride, but the wild life even more. It was our first time in the Tasman Sea, and going into an underwater observatory. The boat docked us at the observatory, and we then traveled 100 feet down into the lake in a tube, so we could observe the wildlife that one would normally never see. Milford Sound was absolutely incredible!

Stay tuned,

Nicole

  1. What an incredible place -- a breathtaking raw, unspoiled beauty!
The rocky cliffs and forests, the waterfalls, the mountains surrounded by the clouds, the sea lions... Everything looks in one word spectacular! A very well deserved place among the natural wonders of the world!
I am sure the underwater observatory was a very unique experience too.
Anthony, your photographs are also "prize winning."
