Time for the Beach!

January 30, 2013

" Mount Maunganui"

"Surfers! We were going to take our first class, but decided to wait for Australia!"
"Hi from Tauranga!"

"Picnic on the Beach!"

"Anthony looks like a spec up there"

"Loving the beach...RELAXING!"

"Found a little bit of home.... COUNTRY MUSIC!"

"Cheers Mate"
Cheers Mate! That is our favorite line frequently said here in New Zealand.... they use the phrase "cheers mate" to describe all sorts of positive situations.  The Kiwi's (the term used to call New Zealander's) have been absolutely amazing, filled with such happiness!  Life here in New Zealand is very relaxing... the Kiwi's, the daily activities, and even the nightlife.  One thing being said, is that they really know how to party!  I have been able to dance the night away, a regular activity over here!

Well, here we are in Tauranga, located in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's North Island.  If there is one word that I can use to describe Tauranga is BEAUTIFUL!  This has been a much needed relaxing spot... a perfect place to read on the beautiful beach of Mount Maunganui!

The beach is absolutely amazing and I couldn't help but admire the bright blue ocean, the soft sparkling sand, the surfers enjoying the beauty of God's waves, and the giant rocks Anthony had a lot of fun climbing!  We are constantly reminded of God's amazing creation... from the moment we felt as if we were flying in Queenstown, to the ice cold glaciers in Franz Josef, and now to the sunny beaches of Tauranga!  We have been through all the levels of the weather spectrum... from the cold snow to the hot shining sun!

The most interesting part of laying on the beach, was realizing that we were laying on the sand talking together on the other side of the world from our home town.  The sun feels so different, since the ozone layer is so thin here.    We always dreamed of traveling and seeing all the other wonder's of the world that were not found at home, but we never knew how beautiful it would be!  Each spot has a unique feature, that makes its absolutely different but just as beautiful as the other.

We enjoyed a picnic on the beach for lunch as we enjoyed every second of this beautiful beach!  We were going to take our first surfing lesson, but decided we will wait for Australia! Anyways, we enjoyed a game of volleyball with the locals and Anthony learned how to play Rugby (which is huge here)!

Then after an amazing day at the beach, we decided to walk down the boardwalk for dinner and found the perfect spot that even had a little piece of home for us!  They had "Wednesday Country Night!" where a band played all night... who thought we would find a band playing country all the way in New Zealand!  It was an amazing night as we sang along to our favorite country songs.

Well, I can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store.  Each day is even more exciting!  I hope you all enjoy the pictures, as much as I enjoy watching Anthony walk around with all his camera equipment LOL!

Stay tuned,

Nicole

  2. After all the strenuous activities in which you have taken me, this is so relaxing!! Feels more like home to me even though I am sure you have found the beach quite different to our Florida beaches. Anthony continues taking great photos that nicely complement the vivid descriptions of your incredible adventure.

    Cheers Mate!
