As the locals say...

As the locals say, "Tasmania is the best place on the planet." Now they may be a little bias, but I can certainly agree with their claim on Australia's famous little Island. Tasmania is small enough to get around easily, but big enough to be filled with a million reasons to visit. "The forests are greener than envy, the beaches bluer than blue and the mountain areas so wild and untamed you'd think you were in some surreal nature movie. The coastlines are like nothing you've ever seen before and the rivers and waterways are just waiting to be swum in, dived into, ridden on and fished silly."

Before we tell you about our incredible experience with the little creatures we just witnessed, lets start off by intorducing these little devils. Tasmanian devils are meat eating marsupials. I think their name suits their reputation quite well, wouldn't you agree? They are now found only on the island of Tasmania. These little devils have very strong jaws capable of crushing large bones, and mostly eat carrion. Devils also are famous for their snarling aggressive behavior, especially at feeding and mating time. It was a once in a life time opportunity to see these fascinating little creatures… they are true little devils.

But with that being said… I must be honest… something else took the spotlight! They were these adorable creatures! These little creatures were a light brown/gray, had big brow eyes, were perched up, had their babies in their pouches, and hopped along! Yes… the Kangaroos stole the "spot-light."

The "Roos" as the locals call them can be seen on any drive through out Tasmania, but these elusive creatures are spooked easily therefore are very hard to spend a lot of time with. Lucky enough for us, we stopped at a park where the "Roos" are accustomed to people walking the nature paths. We got to spend time with over fifty kangaroos!!! Our three favorite kangaroos were: a young juvenile (which we named Hoppy), a family of three, and a mom and her baby. All of which you have been able to witness above in the photos, as we tried to capture these unforgettable memories!

All you needed was a little bit of feed or grass, and these little "Roos" would eat off the palm of your hand. I honestly didn't know how I was going to stop Anthony from taking one home with us!!! I guess we will eventually have to sneak one back with us…? Truly a memory of a lifetime!!! I am so happy this dream of ours finally came true, especially Anthony's childhood dream! I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as we had taking them. We even got to capture these little "Roos" on video!

They are literally everywhere in Australia! Driving the roads are a blast, as they jump out in front of us every time!!! I guess this "movie" is actually our reality!

I am excited for the next blog as we saw an unbelievable sunset and delicious wine tasting!!!

Stay Tuned!

Good Day Mate,

Nicole

  2. OK. It was good that you were able to see a Tasmanian devil in real life (not a cartoon),
but really the kangaroos stole the show. How CUTE!!! They look so friendly... It seems that the feeling was mutual --they liked you both-- I wonder if they could be domesticated.

What an amazing experience! I've enjoyed very much this episode of your adventure in the "land down under."

    Love,
    Baba
