The Acropolis of Athens
Living A Dream In Greece

The Acropolis, also called the Sacred Rock of Athens, is the most important site of the city and constitutes one of the most recognizable monuments of the world

YES we were able to see the actual Acropolis of Athens, another check off our bucket list!

The Acropolis is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and containing the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The Acropolis is the most significant reference point of ancient Greek culture, as well as the symbol of the city of Athens itself as it represents the apogee of artistic development in the 5th century BC.

The Parthenon is a temple of the Athenian Acropolis, Greece, dedicated to the maiden goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron deity.  Its construction began in 447 BC when the Athenian Empire was at the height of its power.  It was completed in 438 BC.  It is the most important surviving building of Classical Greece, generally considered the culmination of the development of the Doric order.  Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the high points in Greek art.

The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy, western civilization and on of the world's greatest cultural monuments.

The view from the Acropolis, overlooking Athens, was incredible.  We will never forget this moment, enjoy the beautiful pictures above!

Love,

Nicole & Anthony
