THE WIND MILLS: MYKONOS, GREECE

The Beautiful Wind Mills of Mykonos:

The Wind Mills of Mykonos

Can this day get better?

Well ... YES I fell in love with the Wind Mills.  The Mykonos Wind Mills are an iconic feature.  As previously mentioned, the island is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea.  The Wind Mills can be seen from every point of the village of Mykonos or the ' Chora ' meaning - the town.

Most wind mills face towards the North where the island's climate sources its strongest winds over the largest part of the year. There are currently 16 windmills on Mykonos of which seven are positioned on the famous landmark hill in Chora (at this very spot). Most of them were built by the Venetians in the 16th century, but construction continued into the early 20th century. They were primarily used to mill wheat. They were an important source of income for the inhabitants.

The amazing part is that their architecture is similar. They all have a round shape, white color and a pointed roof and very small windows.

We certainly enjoyed this incredible spot, as we continued to in the days to come!

  1. The Wind Mills are beautifully built. This landmark is surely one of the best picture spots on the island.
