THE MONKEY TEMPLE BALI, INDONESIA

The Uluwatu Monkey Temple is a set of Balinese monasteries perched about on towering cliffs, along the beautiful coastline with friendly monkeys playing everywhere! Enjoy the pictures as we had so much fun with our new little friends.

"Anthony told me to remain calm... well I freaked out"

Bat Time...?

Hello From The Monkey Temple

Putu, our driver (mentioned in our previous blog post), drove us to our next destination ... the famous Monkey Temple.  This magnificent temple is also known as the Ulwatu Monkey Temple.

This was an absolutely new experience for Anthony and I because not only did we get to feed and hold monkeys, but we were able to seek spiritual fulfillment. We were filled with peace and tranquility from the moment we stepped onto the luscious green grass of the temple grounds.

This sacred temple is home to about 6 monks who take care of the 600 monkeys who reside there. We were instructed to keep calm with the monkeys, "the monkeys may touch you, you may not touch the monkeys."  This statement was quite confusing for me since I 'freaked out' (as Anthony would put it) when the monkeys jumped upon my shoulders.  It turns out, that despite my concerns of the monkeys friendliness, the monkeys only wanted to play in return for peanuts!  Not only were these adorable creatures incredibly smart, but they brought so much excitement to our day!

Were we really standing on the premises of a sacred temple with monkeys jumping onto our shoulders, from every direction imaginable?!

YES, we were living out a dream!

While we were presenting our sacrifices (burning incence and flowers), we were able to also offer our sacrifices of love and peanuts to the monkeys.

Oh... and we were in for a surprise.  We held bats!  Now this was a scary encounter, but we did it!

Monkeys, Bats and a Sacred Temple made this experience life altering.

We are immersing ourselves into a new culture, opening our arms to peace and tranquility every minute brings.

Peace & Tranquility,

Nicole & Anthony

P.S. Stay Tuned For SO Much More!
